From prod to plate, beans stay bright green. Broad Beans are great in stir-fries or can be added to casseroles and stews. Not too bad steamed with a little butter, salt & pepper as well. A welcome vegetable addition to the dark months of winter and early spring.

• How to sow: Choose a sheltered, well drained site in full sun. Sow directly where to grow in a warm, well prepared seedbed. Sow seeds 20cm apart, in rows 90cm apart and to a depth 5cm.
• Seedling Care: Keep seedbed or trays evenly moist during the germination period of 7-14 days. Apply McGregor's FruitMax 2 weeks after germination for healthier plants and for maximum crop. Protect your herb garden from snails and slugs with McGregor's Snail and Slug bait and from White Butterfly with McGregor's Derris Dust.
• Hints and Tips: Shell pods and boil beans. You can treat small pods like French Beans. While Broad Beans produce strong plants, some form of support/staking is beneficial. Especially when plants are laden with pods.
